In
Wicca we do something really cool. We write down our thoughts, ideas,
and information about our religion. This writing is similar to
writing in a diary or journal except this book is magical and special
in many ways.
This
book is called a Book of Shadows, or the short version B.O.S.
This
is a book you will refer to often to learn and understand more about
your Wiccan Ways. It will grow in size and information as you grow
and you will learn to treasure it as you get older.
So, why is it
called a Book of Shadows
Mysterious
name huh? Maybe you can find out why.. go bit of Wiccan lore to go into
your B.O.S.
Now
a days many Wiccans
have Books
of Shadows
and they come in many forms.
A
person who works alone
can have their own special book.
Large
groups or families can have one they
share together with each person adding something special to it.
 Kids
can have their own too!
Some Wiccans
store their information on the computer for easy access.
Some
make and create their own book or purchase one of their liking.
The
options are endless and the ways to create and make your own are just
as endless too. All you need is imagination and a desire to make that
special book that will show your journey as a Wiccan.

and it is a fun project to do!
First
off, you CAN change the name if you don't like the term Book of Shadows.
 Pooh
thinks... A book of Moons? A book of Stars? A book of Earth? A book
of Pooh? A book of Honey? Oh
Bother!!
Most
people will start off with a three ring binder so you can add and
remove pages as you need to. However you don't have to do it this
way. You can use a diary, or a blank journal if you have one. From
there you can decorate the cover if you like to make it look just the
way you want.
Do
you draw or color? Then put that talent in your book!
HINT:
You can even use scrapbooks!
How
your pages look is up to you.
If
you like to draw then put those in the book.
 Maybe
you like to cut and paste things on your book. It is all up to you!!
There is good information on tea dying the pages to make the book look
really old. Maybe parchment like paper? These things can be more
expensive, but if YOU save or find less expensive ways to make your
book your own, then why not?
The
most important thing about a book of shadows is that it is made by
you with your special Wiccan flare. You can use a special pen and special
paper to write or you can type it out... again.. all up to you!
What

Well, My
book is called a Book of Shadows so I keep it special for my eyes
only!. What I can tell you is MOST of the information in the
list below is also in my book. Actually, my first page is a drawing I
made with a tree that has special meaning to me.

What about us animals? Do
you have a favorite animal or creature you like? How about drawing a picture
or writing a poem, and putting that in your book!
 Now..once
you make your book..what then
On
a full moon night or close to it, once your book is decorated and
you are ready to start putting information into it, you should bless
your BOS.
There
is no right or wrong way to do this.
You
can sit at your altar, go outside under the full moon, or sit at the
dining room table if you like.
 Remember, if
you are going to light a candle, make certain your parents are with you!
The
most important thing to think about while blessing your book is the reason
you made it.
This book IS
special and it should be kept that way.
This is not the type of book you throw under your bed, or toss in the
corner on top of others books. This book needs to be kept neat
and clean
and stored in a special place. Can you do that??
